So, Why Do You Want Your Full Chart?
A quick Google search on the validity of astrology will yield a mountain of pieces decrying it and shooting everyone’s favorite word, “pseudoscience,” around. There are many reasons for this, some find it antithetical to their traditional religious practices (this isn’t a religion); others refuse to believe anything with no “hard evidence” to back it up. There are always two things I’ve heard people say which lead me to believe they aren’t being unreasonable and would greatly benefit from having their entire chart read. One, “how can everyone in the world fit into one of twelve personalities,” (they can’t!). Two, “I just don’t really feel like my sun sign,” (fair enough).
Astrology as we know it today has us believing that we are defined by the Sun. But, you are so much more than just your sun.
I recently did a reading for someone who’s sun is in Capricorn. After the reading, they exclaimed how much more sense this made and that they never really were able to identify with their Capricorn sun, to which I said, “no kidding, you’ve got four planets hanging out in Sagittarius!” Aside from that stellium, they had an Aquarius Ascendant and a Moon in Gemini.
By analyzing the position of every luminary and planet at the time of our birth, we are yet another step closer to unlocking who we are.
I’m sure between the horoscope columns we flipped through in magazines and even the cheesy pickup lines we’ve seen in movies, we’ve all heard the line, “what’s your sign.” In modern times, we’ve grown accustomed to answering this question with our Sun sign. But long ago, during Hellenistic times, the answer to this was the Ascendant. This is the constellation that sits on the eastern horizon at your time of birth. Along with your Sun and Moon placements, the Ascendant is the third piece of the puzzle in terms of your inner and outer self.
Outside of these three luminaries, you also have personal planets (Mars, Venus, and Mercury), social planets (Jupiter and Saturn), and generational planets (Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto) all taking up some real estate in your chart. Each one has its own qualities and depending on which sign and house they reside in, will be expressed in different ways and in different areas of your life.
